West Sacramento, CA – In the wake of the most powerful earthquake to hit Japan in over 100 years, many Americans want to help those impacted by the earthquake and the tsunami that followed. Better Business Bureau warns donors to exercise caution when making donations to relief agencies and charities.

As with every natural disaster, there are unscrupulous people who will attempt to take advantage of the public’s eagerness to help victims.

Japan hit by huge 8.9 earthquake; Tsunami warning issued for coastal California

A large and destructive earthquake struck Japan over-night.  The magnitude 8.9 quake has generated a significant tsunami.  A Tsunami warning has been issued for coastal California.  Evacuations are in effect in Del Norte County.  Click here for the National Weather Service Tsunami Warning Center to see the latest information.

Cowboy Poetry celebrates 25 years

This year marks a very important year in the saga of Cowboy Poetry gatherings at the Sierra Grange Hall in Vinton. It’s the 25th year of performances of an event so popular it spilled over into a second yearly event in the summer.

The original March event typically heralds the beginning of spring in eastern Plumas County and this year’s performances will be held March 18 – 19.

GLRID finds no 10-inch line needed: just open the valves

For the past dozen years, it was believed that the Delleker industrial park outside Portola had insufficient fire flows to support any increased development in the area. There was no help for it. The area needed a 10-inch water main — so people thought.

Public planning meetings for Pioneer Park addition

The Central Plumas Recreation and Park District has scheduled three public planning meetings for the future development of recent additions to Pioneer Park. The purpose of the planning meetings is to solicit and accept site recreational use ideas and general community input regarding the future development and use of the district’s new park properties located in East Quincy, according to recreation and park district general manager Jim Boland.
