The Plumas District Hospital board meeting Aug. 5 was once again dominated by discussion of a possible new hospital building, and the pending Measure B vote.
PDH's Chief Executive Officer John Nadone reported that Monday, Aug. 2, he submitted a full application for a low-interest USDA loan, which the hospital hopes to use to fund its new building.
Quincy High School principal Sue Segura is brainstorming again. A whirlwind of ideas flies around the room. The most recent project to emerge is the Hall of Fame.
The high school has a long and rich history, said Segura. "It's so important that we honor our tradition."
The Plumas District Hospital Measure B election Aug. 31 looms large, overshadowing the November elections in many ways. But there are some key races that warrant a closer look.
The main one is the race for PDH's board, at press time the only contested election. Three hospital board seats are open. Bill Elliott, John Kimmel and Fred Thon currently hold those. Elliott is not running but Kimmel and Thon are.
At its latest meeting July 28, Portola's city council voted to become a member of the Graeagle Plumas Alliance at the $2,000 level. All council members voted for the membership except William Weaver, who had been in favor of a lower level, lower cost ($600) membership. The expenditure required a budget amendment as well.
The Almanor Recreation and Park District board of directors held its monthly meeting Wednesday, July 28, at the Almanor Basin Community Resource Center.
The board focused on three primary topics of district revenue; the potential of collaborating with the Chester-Lake Almanor Chamber of Commerce to provide a Winterfest activity; and approval of a policy regarding equipment use on the Truman Collins Sports Complex multipurpose field.
