Teachers take no confidence vote on superintendent
As their meeting stretched toward 10:30 p.m., members of the Plumas Unified School District governing board voted unanimously to table teacher layoffs until a special meeting Feb. 22.
Bret Cook made the motion. "Given the comments we've heard tonight," he said, "I think it would give the public more confidence" if the vote were postponed.

School closures: Charter looks more promising

Will Plumas Unified School District trustees allow charter schools on their campuses, if it means a high-quality education with more options for students?
Indian Valley School Closure and Consolidation Committee members have been exploring different school models, and the most attractive seems to be combining the traditional, charter and academy programs.

Supervisor Meacher announces Assembly run
Longtime Plumas County supervisor Robert Meacher officially announced his candidacy for the 1st Assembly District of the California State Assembly Feb. 1. “We have been looking at this for several months,” Meacher said, “and now is the time to make this race official.”

Candidates line up for recall election
Portola City Clerk Leslie Tigan certified nominations Jan. 31 for candidates seeking to fill Dan Wilson’s seat, should he be recalled, on the City Council.
A special municipal recall election has been set for April 10. Citizens will have a chance to retain or recall Wilson, as well as choose a replacement if the recall is successful. The election will be handled by mail.

7-11 committee takes comment from public, teachers at latest meeting
On Wednesday, Feb. 1, the District Advisory Committee for Chester area schools, also called the “7-11” committee, met for the second of its six weekly meetings. On the agenda for the meeting were three orders of business directly linked with the committee’s charge to provide the Plumas Unified School District (PUSD) board of trustees with a recommendation regarding proposed school closures and consolidations.
