   These are the stories we are working on for this week's newspaper:
  • Image makeover needed: In the soon-to-be-released grand jury report, the jurors said the county’s Alcohol and Drug and Mental Health departments are suffering from a poor public image.
  • Help at the jail: The Board of Supervisors approved the sheriff’s request to hire four corrections officers, but not before reminding him the county is facing a $3 million budget problem.
  • Water disaster?: The state has already enacted emergency conservation measures. The county is thinking about declaring a local disaster as well.

Kepple family to play for hospice benefit concert

Quincy physician Dr. Jeff Kepple and daughters Kelsey, 20, Natalie, 17, and Claire, 15, will once again perform for the benefit of Plumas Community Hospice. The event will be held Sunday, Nov. 13, at the Town Hall Theatre in Quincy.

Other musicians performing that evening include The String Beings, Theresa Gallagher and Jodi Beynon, Andrew Ohren and Che Rubalcava-Cunan, Mark Satterfield and Garrett Hagwood.

Portola schools - Two hour delayed start Friday

All other schools open and on schedule for Friday

The bus barn at Plumas Unified School District called to inform Feather Publishing that all PUSD schools in the Portola area will have a two hour delayed start Friday, Nov. 04, 2011 due to chain requirements. The Portola area received about a foot of new snow overnight. All other schools in Plumas County are open and starting on time, however buses in many areas are running chains as well and could be late to bus stops.

Portola versus Quincy football game delayed till Saturday

 

Nov. 5, 2011 – Feather Publishing has confirmed the Quincy vs. Portola High School football game that was scheduled for tonight in Portola has been delayed due to the weather. The JV teams will play Saturday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. and the Varsity teams will play at 1 p.m.

Canyon Dam post office under threat of closure

Prattville residents met Tuesday, Oct. 25, in the local firehall with two representatives from the United States Postal Service (USPS) Operations Program Support Division.

The meeting was a follow-up to the letter of intention and survey sent to local residents advising them that the Canyon Dam post office was currently involved in a closure study.

Man arrested on arson charges

A man was arrested Monday, Oct. 31, in connection with several fires that were set along Highway 36 near Westwood earlier that morning.

Andrew Giampapa was arrested by Plumas County sheriff’s deputies on charges of arson, being under the influence of a controlled substance and violating parole.
