A series of thunderstorms passing through Lassen Volcanic National Park and the neighboring region produced a number of lightning strikes that ignited five small fires in the park.
Two of the fires were suppressed and one other fire went out on its own. Park staff decided to manage the remaining two fires: the Peak Fire and the Summit Fire. The Peak Fire is located at 8,330 feet in elevation on the northwest slope of Lassen Peak. Surrounded by rock and snow, it has little potential for growth.
Indian Creek water rights holders bombarded state water officials with questions when they came to Taylorsville Tuesday, Sept. 20.

A 22-year-old Milford man was found dead Tuesday morning, Sept. 27, after a single-vehicle accident on Highway 36 near Chester.
The man charged with shooting a Susanville resident to death during a car chase won’t have a preliminary hearing until early next year.
Gregory Chad Wallin-Reed agreed to wait until Jan. 19, 2012, for the hearing to allow his defense attorneys more time to review evidence.
Wallin-Reed, 36, of Reno, who has pleaded “not guilty” in the shooting death of 20-year-old Rory McGuire, appeared in Plumas County Superior Court on Friday, Sept. 23.
