The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office citizen liaison committee’s thoughts on the department’s employees could be boiled down to one sentence: “They are doing so much on so little, but to do the job they are asked to do requires more adequate funding.”

Sheriff Greg Hagwood formed the citizen group as a means of increasing communication between his office and the County Board of Supervisors.

Wife, others join in allegations of discrimination

J.C. Eaglesmith, a teacher at the Plumas County Community School and former Quincy High School basketball coach, has filed suit in federal court against Plumas Unified School District (PUSD) and Plumas County Office of Education (PCOE) and a number of administrators alleging he was discriminated against, harassed and retaliated against because of his race, national origin and exercise of First Amendment and other protected rights.

Plumas County Superior Court has thrown out Plumas County’s lawsuit against former District Attorney Jeff Cunan.

Cunan had filed a demurrer with the court. A demurrer challenges the legal adequacy of a suit. A judge can deny the demurrer, in which instance the case proceeds. The demurrer can be granted with a leave to amend; in other words, the party making the claim gets a do-over. Or, the judge can grant the demurrer without leave to amend.

There are only nine days left until the Eastern Plumas Winter Snow Fest. The event is jam-packed with activities including the 15th annual Rotary Snowmobile Poker Run at Lake Davis and the historic longboard races in Johnsville.

Beginning Friday, Feb. 18, at Grizzly Creek Ranch, the Queen Scholarship Pageant will be held at 6 p.m. and includes dinner. Ticket prices are $10.  Sleigh rides will be offered starting at 7 p.m. and the evening will be wrapped up with a moonlight snowmobile ride at 8 p.m. at J&J’s Grizzly Store.
